On the shining white coast, sixty kilometres south of Madras, you can find the small town of Mahabalipuram, Phoenician traders knew thies town as a seaport some 2,000 years ago.Nowadays the stone relief "Arjuna´s Repentance", made in the 7th century, is well k´nown. It´s about 27 meters long. Scattered over the hills in front of the town there are eight cave temples, another attraction to be found is "Krishnas Butterball", a giant stone balancing on a rock.
